The Western Digital WD Purple Surveillance Hard Drive is purpose-built for continuous video recording in compatible DVR and NVR security systems. Available in capacities from 1TB through to 14TB on this listing, it provides flexible storage options for residential CCTV, retail security, commercial surveillance and larger multi-camera installations.

Unlike general-purpose desktop storage, WD Purple is engineered around the write-intensive, always-on workloads generated by surveillance systems. Western Digital's AllFrame technology is designed to optimise high-stream-count video workloads, helping reduce video frame loss and support smoother recording and playback in compatible surveillance environments.

The range uses CMR recording technology with a 3.5-inch SATA interface and supports an annualised workload of up to 180TB per year. Depending on the selected capacity and model, WD Purple drives offer cache sizes up to 512MB, transfer speeds up to 215MB/s and support surveillance systems with up to 64 HD camera streams.

With capacity options ranging from compact storage for smaller CCTV installations to higher-capacity drives for extended footage retention, the WD Purple range allows installers and system owners to select storage according to camera count, resolution, bitrate and required recording duration. Western Digital specifies a 3-year limited manufacturer warranty across the WD Purple surveillance range.
