Overview

The Western Digital WD Purple 6TB Surveillance Hard Drive is purpose-built for continuous 24/7 video recording in compatible DVR and NVR security systems. With 6TB of storage, it provides increased recording capacity for residential, retail and commercial CCTV installations that require longer footage retention.

WD Purple features AllFrame technology, designed to optimise write-intensive, low-bit-rate and high-stream-count surveillance workloads. It helps reduce dropped video frames while improving recording and playback performance in compatible security systems.

Using CMR recording technology and a SATA 6Gb/s interface, WD Purple 6TB models support up to 64 single-stream HD cameras and deliver sustained transfer speeds of up to 180MB/s. The drives are rated for workloads of up to 180TB per year, making them suitable for demanding always-on surveillance environments.

The 6TB range also supports systems with up to 16 drive bays and includes RV sensors and tarnish-resistant components for improved reliability in multi-drive NVR installations. WD specifies an MTBF of up to 1 million hours and a 2-year limited manufacturer warranty.
