Overview

The Western Digital WD Purple 4TB Surveillance Hard Drive is purpose-built for continuous 24/7 video recording in compatible DVR and NVR security systems. With 4TB of storage, it provides greater recording capacity for residential, retail and commercial CCTV installations where longer footage retention is required.

WD Purple features AllFrame technology, designed to optimise write-intensive, low-bit-rate and high-stream-count surveillance workloads. It helps reduce dropped video frames and improve recording and playback performance in compatible security systems.

Using CMR recording technology and a SATA 6Gb/s interface, current WD Purple 4TB models deliver sustained transfer speeds of up to 180MB/s and support up to 64 single-stream HD cameras. They are rated for workloads of up to 180TB per year, making them suitable for continuous surveillance recording.

The 4TB range also supports systems with up to 16 drive bays and includes RV sensors and tarnish-resistant components for improved reliability in multi-drive surveillance environments. WD Purple provides an MTBF of up to 1 million hours and a 2-year limited manufacturer warranty.
