Overview
The Western Digital WD Purple 2TB Surveillance Hard Drive is purpose-built for continuous 24/7 video recording in compatible DVR and NVR security systems. Its 2TB capacity provides practical local storage for residential CCTV, retail stores, offices and other small to medium surveillance installations.
Unlike a standard desktop hard drive, WD Purple is engineered specifically for always-on surveillance workloads. Western Digital's AllFrame technology helps reduce dropped video frames and improves video recording and playback in compatible security systems.
The drive uses CMR recording technology with a 3.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s interface and supports up to 64 single-stream HD cameras. Current WD Purple 2TB models deliver transfer speeds of up to 180MB/s and are rated for workloads of up to 180TB per year, making them suitable for sustained CCTV recording.
Designed for surveillance systems with up to 8 drive bays, WD Purple 2TB also offers an MTBF of up to 1 million hours and is backed by a 2-year limited manufacturer warranty.
