Overview

The Western Digital WD Purple 12TB Surveillance Hard Drive is purpose-built for continuous 24/7 video recording in compatible DVR and NVR security systems. Its high 12TB capacity provides extended local storage for multi-camera residential, commercial and business surveillance installations where longer footage retention is required.

Designed specifically for always-on surveillance workloads, WD Purple uses AllFrame technology to optimise write-intensive, low-bit-rate and high-stream-count recording. It helps support reliable video capture across multiple cameras while reducing the risk of dropped frames during continuous recording.

The WD121PURZ uses CMR recording technology with a 7200 RPM disk speed, 256MB cache and sustained transfer rates of up to 175MB/s. It supports up to 64 HD camera streams and workloads of up to 180TB per year, making it suitable for demanding CCTV environments.

With support for surveillance systems containing up to 16 drive bays, the 12TB WD Purple is a strong storage option for larger NVR installations, higher-resolution cameras and systems requiring extended recording retention.
