• Use this camera for dedicated number plate capture, not general wide-area surveillance. The 8–32mm motorised lens provides a relatively narrow 42.5° to 13.4° horizontal field of view, allowing the installer to concentrate pixels on a specific vehicle lane, gate or driveway approach.
• The 2MP resolution is intentional for ANPR applications. Rather than prioritising very high megapixel counts, the DS-2CD7A26G0/P-IZS combines a large 1/1.8" sensor, fast shutter capability, DarkFighter low-light imaging and 140dB WDR to capture plates under challenging conditions such as headlights, shadows and strong backlighting.
• Do not treat the 100m IR specification as a guaranteed 100m plate-reading distance. The 8–32mm version has infrared illumination rated up to 100m, but successful ANPR depends on lens framing, mounting angle, vehicle position, plate size in the image, lighting and system configuration.
• Plan around one controlled vehicle lane where possible. Hikvision's ANPR installation guidance recommends one lane per 2MP camera and specifies that plate characters need sufficient pixel size in the captured image. Correct camera placement is therefore just as important as the hardware specification.
• The camera can do more than simply record a number plate. License plates can be recognised and used with configured allowlists and blocklists, with alarms generated for listed plates. This makes the camera particularly useful as part of vehicle access, parking and security workflows.
• Allow for PoE+ power and professional mounting. The DS-2CD7A26G0/P-IZS uses IEEE 802.3at Class 4 PoE and can consume up to 14W. Its aluminium housing is also substantially larger and heavier than a standard bullet camera at around Ø140 × 351mm and 2.5kg, so a secure mounting surface is important.

What is ANPR on the DS-2CD7A26G0/P-IZS? ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition. The camera can detect and recognise vehicle licence plates and associate captured plate information with surveillance footage, allowing operators to search, monitor or respond to vehicles based on their plate numbers.

What is the advantage of the 8–32mm motorised lens? The lens can be remotely adjusted from 8mm to 32mm, changing the horizontal field of view from approximately 42.5° to 13.4°. This allows the installer to tightly frame a driveway, entry lane or gate so that the licence plate occupies enough pixels in the image for reliable recognition.

Can the lens zoom and focus remotely? Yes. The DS-2CD7A26G0/P-IZS uses a motorised varifocal lens with auto, semi-auto and manual focus options. This makes final framing and focus much easier during installation than physically adjusting a conventional manual varifocal lens.

How far does the infrared night vision reach? The 8–32mm version provides 850nm IR illumination up to 100 metres. This is the illumination specification rather than a guaranteed ANPR recognition distance; actual plate-reading performance depends heavily on the installation geometry and how large the plate appears in the image.

How does it handle vehicle headlights at night? The camera provides 140dB Wide Dynamic Range together with DarkFighter low-light technology and image controls including HLC. These features are particularly valuable in ANPR scenes where headlights, reflective licence plates and dark surrounding areas can appear in the same frame.

Can it automatically identify authorised and unauthorised vehicles? Yes. Hikvision specifies support for licence plate recognition together with alarms for plates stored in configured allowlists and blocklists. In an integrated access-control or parking system, recognised plates can be used as part of automated vehicle-entry workflows.

Is it suitable for monitoring multiple traffic lanes? For reliable ANPR, Hikvision recommends one lane per 2MP camera. Trying to cover several lanes with one camera can make plates too small in the image or introduce excessive viewing angles, reducing recognition performance.

Does the DS-2CD7A26G0/P-IZS have audio? No. The official specification for this model lists no audio capability. It does, however, provide two alarm inputs, two alarm outputs and an RS-485 communication interface for integration with other equipment.

Can it record without an NVR? Yes. The camera has a built-in microSD/SDHC/SDXC slot supporting up to 256GB, as well as network-storage support. An NVR or Hikvision management platform is still preferable where longer retention, centralised vehicle searches or multi-camera management is required.

Can the camera trigger a gate or other external device? The camera provides two alarm inputs and two alarm outputs, and its ANPR function can generate events based on recognised plates. Actual barrier or gate operation depends on the overall access-control architecture and compatible connected equipment rather than the camera alone.

Is the camera suitable for exposed outdoor installations? Yes. The aluminium housing is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance and IK10 for vandal resistance. The standard -IZS version is specified for operation down to -30°C; the separate -IZHS model adds a heater for more extreme cold environments
