• Use the motorised 2.8–12mm lens when the final viewing angle cannot be fixed before installation. The camera can be adjusted remotely from a wide 106° horizontal view at 2.8mm to a much tighter 35° view at 12mm, making it more flexible than a fixed-lens bullet camera.
• Zooming in significantly increases useful identification distance. Hikvision's DORI figures range from approximately 7m identification at the 2.8mm wide setting to 20m at the 12mm telephoto setting, so the lens can be tuned around the specific area that needs detail.
• The 60m Smart IR range makes this camera particularly suitable for larger outdoor areas. Long driveways, warehouse yards, perimeter approaches and car parks can benefit from the extended infrared illumination compared with compact cameras designed for shorter distances.
• DarkFighter should not be confused with ColorVu. Powered-by-DarkFighter improves low-light performance down to 0.003 Lux in colour, but in darkness the camera uses infrared illumination and records black-and-white footage rather than white-light-assisted full-colour video.
• There is no built-in microphone or speaker. The DS-2CD2666G2T-IZS provides separate audio input and output interfaces, allowing an external microphone and speaker to be added when audio recording or two-way communication is required.
• Plan for PoE+ rather than standard low-power PoE. The current Hikvision datasheet specifies IEEE 802.3at Class 4 PoE with maximum consumption up to 15W, so confirm that the selected NVR or PoE switch can provide sufficient power.

Is the DS-2CD2666G2T-IZS a PTZ camera? No. The motorised varifocal lens controls zoom and focus, but the camera does not remotely pan or tilt like a PTZ camera. The physical camera direction is set during installation, while the lens can then be adjusted electronically.

How far does the infrared night vision reach? Hikvision specifies Smart IR illumination up to 60 metres using 850nm infrared light. Actual useful image detail will depend on the zoom setting, ambient lighting, weather, mounting position and target size.

How far can the camera identify a person? At the wide 2.8mm setting, Hikvision publishes DORI figures of approximately 68m detection, 27m observation, 13m recognition and 7m identification. At the 12mm telephoto setting, these increase to approximately 200m, 79m, 40m and 20m respectively.

Does the camera record colour video at night? Powered-by-DarkFighter helps maintain usable colour images in low ambient light, with Hikvision specifying colour sensitivity down to 0.003 Lux at F1.4. In darkness, however, the camera uses infrared illumination and switches to monochrome night imaging.

Does the DS-2CD2666G2T-IZS have a built-in microphone? No. The camera provides one line-level audio input and one audio output, but it does not contain a built-in microphone. An external microphone must be connected if audio recording at the camera location is required.

Can it support two-way audio? Yes, but external audio hardware is required. The audio input can accept a compatible external microphone and the audio output can connect to a compatible speaker, allowing a two-way audio setup when correctly configured.

How does AcuSense help reduce false alarms? AcuSense uses deep-learning algorithms to classify human and vehicle targets. Motion detection and smart perimeter events can therefore focus on these target types rather than responding equally to unrelated movement such as animals, vegetation or general scene activity.

What smart detection events are supported? The camera supports line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exit detection, with human and vehicle target filtering. Scene change detection and face capture are also supported.

Can the camera record without an NVR? Yes. The DS-2CD2666G2T-IZS includes an onboard microSD card slot supporting up to 512GB, along with NAS storage and Auto Network Replenishment support. An NVR remains preferable for centralised recording and multi-camera installations.

Is the camera suitable for exposed outdoor installations? Yes. The all-metal housing carries an IP67 weather-resistance rating and IK10 vandal-resistance rating, with an operating temperature range of -30°C to 60°C. This makes it suitable for demanding commercial and industrial outdoor locations.
