The 2.8mm lens is best suited to wide, short-to-medium range coverage. Its 105° horizontal field of view works particularly well around entrances, reception areas, eaves, corridors and residential approaches where seeing more of the scene matters more than long-distance identification.
Do not confuse DarkFighter with ColorVu. Powered-by-DarkFighter improves image quality in low ambient light, but this camera uses 850nm infrared illumination in darkness. It therefore produces monochrome IR footage when necessary rather than white-light-assisted colour footage throughout the night.
The 30m IR specification describes illumination range, not identification range. Hikvision's DORI figures for the 2.8mm lens are approximately 76m detection, 30m observation, 15m recognition and 7m identification, so installation distance should be planned around the level of detail actually required.
AcuSense is particularly useful in locations with frequent background movement. Human and vehicle classification can be applied to smart perimeter events, helping distinguish relevant targets from general scene activity and making alerts easier to manage.
The built-in microphone provides audio recording, but not standalone two-way audio. DS-2CD2566G2-IS includes a microphone plus audio input/output interfaces, but no built-in speaker. An external compatible speaker is required if voice communication at the camera location is needed.
IP67 plus IK08 is an important advantage of the mini dome format. The camera combines weather resistance with impact protection, making it suitable for exposed or accessible mounting positions where a conventional indoor dome would be less appropriate.

What resolution does the DS-2CD2566G2-IS provide? The current Hikvision C-revision datasheet specifies a maximum resolution of 3200 × 1800 at 6MP, using a 1/2.4" Progressive Scan CMOS sensor. At 50Hz, the camera can deliver up to 25fps at full 3200 × 1800 resolution.

How wide is the 2.8mm lens? The 2.8mm version provides approximately 105° horizontal, 55° vertical and 127° diagonal field of view. This makes it a wide-angle option suitable for entrances, rooms, driveways and other locations where broad scene coverage is needed.

How far can the camera identify a person? Hikvision publishes DORI values of approximately 76m detection, 30m observation, 15m recognition and 7m identification for the 2.8mm lens. These are standardised planning figures rather than guaranteed facial-identification distances under every lighting and installation condition.

How far does the night vision reach? The camera provides Smart IR illumination up to 30 metres using 850nm infrared light. The Smart Supplement Light function helps manage IR output to reduce excessive illumination of nearby subjects.

Does it record colour video at night? DarkFighter technology can retain useful colour information in low ambient light, with Hikvision specifying colour sensitivity down to 0.003 Lux at F1.6. When the scene becomes sufficiently dark, however, the camera uses IR illumination and records monochrome night footage.

Does the camera have a built-in microphone? Yes. The DS-2CD2566G2-IS includes a built-in microphone, so audio can be recorded together with video without installing a separate microphone. The -IS version also provides additional audio input and output interfaces.

Does it have built-in two-way audio? Not completely out of the box. The camera has a built-in microphone but does not have an integrated speaker. It provides an audio output that can be used with a compatible external speaker when two-way communication is required.

How does AcuSense reduce false alarms? AcuSense uses deep-learning algorithms to classify human and vehicle targets. Supported smart events can therefore focus alarms on these target types rather than treating every source of movement as equally relevant.

What smart detection events are supported? The camera supports line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exit detection, with triggering based on specified human and vehicle targets. Scene change detection is also supported.

Can it record without an NVR? Yes. The current C-revision supports onboard microSD storage up to 512GB, as well as NAS/network storage. An NVR is still preferable for longer retention, centralised playback and multi-camera installations.

Is it suitable for outdoor use? Yes. The housing carries an IP67 weather-resistance rating and IK08 impact-resistance rating, with Hikvision specifying operation from -30°C to 60°C.
